Assembled by pianist, composer, and founding SFJAZZ Collective member Renee Rosnes, Artemis is a true all-star superband of modern jazz masters, each a major bandleader and composer. Named for the Olympian goddess of the hunt and the wild, this superlative sextet is an international affair, with members hailing from the U.S., Canada, Israel, Chile, and Japan.

A veteran of work with Joe Henderson, J.J. Johnson, Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter, and Bobby Hutcherson, Rosnes is among the most accomplished pianists in jazz, having led 17 albums as a bandleader including her 2018 live quintet session Beloved of the Sky. Santiago native Melissa Aldana was the winner of the 2013 Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition and has recorded four albums, most recently 2019’s quartet date Visions inspired by the work of Frida Kahlo. One of the great post bop trumpeters to rise in the late 20th century, Vancouver-born Juno Award-winner Ingrid Jensen has led 10 albums and collaborated with Terri Lyne Carrington, Dr. Lonnie Smith, the Vienna Art Orchestra, and Maria Schneider. Anat Cohen is the most celebrated clarinetist of her generation, winning the DownBeat Critics Poll for seven consecutive years. She’s recorded seven diverse sessions under her own name and four with her brothers Avishai and Yuval as the 3 Cohens. Bassist Noriko Ueda won third annual BMI Foundation Charlie Parker Jazz composition prize and is a member of the DIVA Jazz Orchestra. New York-based drummer Allison Miller is a masterful musician and composer who leads the celebrated band Boom-Tic-Boom and has worked with artists including Ani DiFranco, Natalie Merchant, and Virginia Mayhew. She’s led eight recordings including her latest, Glitter Wolf.
